Driving Success: A Candid Conversation with SGT Auto Transport’s CEO on National Entrepreneurs Day

Summary

Rev up your entrepreneurial spirit and buckle up for a joyride into the world of success. On National Entrepreneurs Day, we sit down with SGT Auto Transport’s CEO for an exhilarating Q&A adventure. Fasten your seatbelts - innovation awaits.

Q: Who is Jack in 1 sentence?

A: That’s a great question to start with, thanks. Jack is an average guy with a laser focus whose every breath is logistics..........Dare I say it.........I’m a good and honest man!

Q: Why did you decide to start your own business?

A: It wasn't initially planned, but my experience as a C-Level manager at one of the top US companies, now our competitor, equipped me with some very invaluable insights.

After a serendipitous meeting with Stefano, the owner of SGT Auto Transport, I realized the company was struggling, primarily due to Stefano's personal challenges—his child's cancer diagnosis.

We both agreed that the business could serve a dual purpose: creating a profit for the business, but at the same time channeling a portion of its revenue towards charitable initiatives, particularly childhood cancer and supporting his child's treatment.

Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting their own business?

A: I call it the 5 P approach: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. I urge every new entrepreneur to maintain a beginner's mindset—continually strive, learn, and strategically plan.

There's a Depeche Mode song that comes to mind. It’s titled "Everything Counts". This should be your mantra. Every decision you make will have long-term repercussions.

Q: What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?

A: The freedom to think innovatively and act autonomously. It's the ability to shape your work environment, impact people's lives, and effect real change.

Q: What is the hardest part of being an entrepreneur?

A: It's essential to steer clear of the negative habits that often accompany success and to distance oneself from toxic relationships. However, the hardest part of all is the inherent loneliness that often comes with leadership.

Q: How do you deal with fear and doubt?

A: By persistently moving forward, trusting my instincts, and always being proactive.

Q: How different does your business look now vs. when you first started?

A: Initially, it had the warmth of a family-owned business. We've evolved into a more structured enterprise, which has its merits, but we continue to work hard to preserve our client-first approach. Where I once knew every employee, it's amusing how many might not recognize me now.

Q: How have you grown personally from becoming an entrepreneur?

A: Tremendously. I've embraced the nurturing side of success and encouraged individuals to think beyond conventional limits and embrace risks. I currently host a bi-monthly "Self-Made Millionaires" club.

My background is a humble one, and I'm keen to show budding entrepreneurs that with hard work, discipline, honesty, and vision, anything is achievable.

Personal growth goes hand-in-hand with professional growth, with the end goal of fostering more driven individuals committed to bettering our world.

Q: What qualities do you think every entrepreneur should possess?

A: Unwavering focus, discipline, charisma, instinctual decision-making, and passion.

Q: What makes a good leader?

A compassionate heart paired with a discerning mind.

Q: How do you define success?

It's in the moments when I'm surrounded by family at annual gatherings, sensing their pride. Success is also about positively impacting lives, whether it’s through advice, assistance, or simply quality time.

Q: If it was not for SGT what would you be doing? Any alternative careers?

A: That's thought-provoking. I'd likely be pursuing a career coaching upcoming talents in management. I've always leaned towards people-centric roles.
