Austin’s road network includes Interstate 35 right through the middle of town, US 290, US 71, US 183, Texas 45 (toll road), and local expressways Loop 1 and Loop 360. I-35 is a straight connection to Dallas and San Antonio, while US 290 runs to Houston.

If you’ve got any personal items in your vehicle, you should remove them or stow them in the trunk. The same goes for any removable accessories like antennas, bike racks or storage boxes

It’s a good idea to give your vehicle a wash job and interior cleanout before shipping. Your driver will want you to do a walkaround and fill out an inspection form for his documentation, and it’s a lot easier to spot any potential damage if your vehicle is clean.

Check for any fluid leaks, including brake fluid, transmission fluid, motor oil, power steering fluid or coolant. 

If your vehicle can’t start, run, drive and stop under its own power, please let us know this in advance. Customers do ship non-running vehicles, especially for project cars that need to make it to a specialized tech or garage, but loading a non-running car means special equipment and more time on the part of the transport driver (and additional costs). 

We’ll give you your transport driver’s cell phone number and contact info; please hang onto this if he needs to reach you or if you need to check in with him. 

If your street is congested, hilly or curvy, it could be difficult to get a transport truck through it. If that’s the case, consider meeting in a more accessible area, like a large, open parking lot. 

Don’t forget that your transport driver will need a copy of the car’s ignition key.

Please be sure that your headlights and taillights work, and that the car has four fully-inflated tires and a charged-up battery. 

Be mindful of the calendar dates when you are planning your auto transport job. SGT experiences surges in shipping jobs during certain seasons, which means more traffic on the highways, a possible scarcity of available transport drivers, and higher rates. Consider rescheduling your shipment if it falls around one of those periods.

It’s really helpful if we can have at least a couple of weeks of lead time to schedule your shipping job. Last-minute hotshot shipping is available, but it comes at extra cost.

So the day has arrived and it’s time to take possession of your car again - great! If you can manage it, we prefer that you be the one to take on this task. You can delegate this to a friend, neighbor, relative or spouse (as long as we know in advance), but whoever receives the vehicle will be asked by the transport driver to do a quick inspection and make sure that the vehicle’s condition matches what’s in his documentation. Also, if you opted for discounted shipping, you may be asked at this time for the balance of what’s owed on your charges. You can pay the transport driver directly with cash, cashier’s check or money order to settle up.

Try to be available when the carrier delivers your vehicle. However, if you’re going to be busy, you can make alternative arrangements. Nominate a third party to act on your behalf. It could be a friend, neighbor, work colleague, or family member, as long as they are 18 years of age or older. 

When the driver unloads your vehicle they will ask you to check its condition, comparing it with the Bill of Lading. If you opted for the discounted price payment option when making your booking, now is the time to hand over the balance to the driver. Payment can be made in cash, with a cashier’s check, or money order.
