Los Angeles to Houston Map

As a Houston car shipping company, SGT Auto Transport has to respond to what’s going on in the market, and auto transport costs are subject to change due to a number of factors (many of which are out of our control). In this blog, we hope to break down some of these factors in more detail and talk about some of the things that can influence shipping costs, specifically when transporting a vehicle from Houston to Los Angeles.

Our customers' feedback and experience with us transporting vehicles from and to Houston:

Sam Y.
from Florida to San Antonio
I had the best shipping experience using SGT Auto Transport! This April I was on the hunt for a 2021 Ford 350 Dually, after weeks of searching for a truck I found one in Houston Tx but I needed the truck shipped to me I live in Melbourne beach Florida. I went to Uship.com and saw that SGT is a preferred carrier with a great rate. So I booked them to deliver my truck home. While sometime things don't always go perfect SGT was able to quickly remedy an issue and actually get me the truck one day before schedule.

Thanks to all at SGT
Etienne Tawong
from Bellevue, WA to San Antonio
SGT Auto Transport is simply the best. When I scheduled a pickup for my vehicle, they gave me a 3 day pickup window, then picked up the vehicle on day 2. They told me during scheduling that my vehicle was going to be delivered at my address in Houston, TX from Bellevue, WA within 4-5 business days or 7 calendar days. Considering the unforeseen contingencies, to my surprise it was delivered on day 8, missing the window by just 1 day. They were communicative and everything went smoothly. Highly recommended.
Erin D.
from Philly to Houston.
Booking with Brodie very easy. Hoping the delivery itself goes just as smoothly. Philly to Houston.
Erin Durant

Easy process to ship a car from Philly to Houston. Straightforward pricing and communication and car arrived without any issues at the right time.
Joe Hackstock
from Houston to Detroit
I would recommend. Had my car shipped from Houston to Detroit with no issues. Delivery took 3 days and arrived as scheduled.
Mark Patton
from Tampa to Houston.
We shipped my wife’s vehicle from Tampa to Houston. They showed up on time at origin and delivered early! I highly recommend SGT.
Syed R.
from Houston to Crown Point, IN
I had a great experience with this SGT! They shipped my Cybertruck from Houston to Crown Point, IN quickly and safely. Communication was clear throughout the process, and the driver was professional and punctual. My vehicle arrived in perfect condition and right on time. Highly recommend for anyone needing reliable auto transport!

SGT picked up my vehicle from Los Angeles and transported to Orlando. Very professional stuff on both customer service and driver end. Will use them in future needs. Recommend!
Keith P.
from Jacksonville, FL to Los Angeles
I shipped a new car from Jacksonville, FL to Los Angles and SGT Auto Transport was amazing to work with. Excellent contact, pricing and service. Car was picked up close to my home on Wednesday and arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon. I was hassled by a dozen transportation companies but I'm glad I went with the SGT.

They brokered my job out (all companies do) but I was more than pleased with the carrier- Pacific Auto Transport. He picked car up within 5 days of signing paperwork with SGT.
Imelda J.
from Alabama to Los Angeles, CA
I contacted SGT amongst other carriers for transportation of a vehicle from Alabama to Los Angeles, CA. The quote was reasonable, and I felt comfortable that the vehicle was fully insured. Although I booked about a month early, it is a little nerve wracking to wait until the week of scheduled pick-up date (which is between 1-3) for confirmation of carrier, since I was only in town for a few days to handle the pickup. SGT is a broker and works with many carriers throughout the US. My initial deposit is via CC (less than 15% of total amt)? J&A Expediting was the carrier I spoke with to coordinate exact time for pickup and drop-off (they receive final payment upon delivery). They were very professional and represented SGT well. I would not hesitate to use SGT for future transport.

What Factors Affect the Cost to Ship a Car From Los Angeles to Houston?

Labor shortages: the commercial trucking industry has had a shortage of qualified drivers for many years, and SGT Auto Transport sets the bar pretty high for the transport drivers we’ll work with. They not only have to have the right qualifications and experience, but they need the right licensing, DOT permits, certifications and insurance. That means handpicking our driver team and offering premium pay for the right drivers.

Regulatory compliance: the DOT and various states all have their own requirements for driver safety, emissions, vehicle safety and other parts of the shipping process. Transport companies have to stay within compliance on all these details, many of which are different from one state to the next, and those costs are reflected in what customers are charged.

Inflation: ever since the Covid pandemic and lockdowns, inflation has been a persistent problem. With economic uncertainty in the air and inflation hanging on, labor, materials, maintenance, commercial truck tires and so many other parts of operations are more expensive.

Calendar period: the auto transport business is cyclical, meaning we do see a surge in shipping traffic during certain times of the year. That means extra demand for drivers and trucks, and that supply/demand equation will mean that transport rates will be higher during those periods.

Fuel prices: this is, of course, a huge factor and one that is varying all the time. If it costs more for a driver to cover the miles in terms of fuel prices, that’s something that will have a direct impact on what customers are charged.

Supply chain disruptions: the global economic environment hasn’t helped clear up post-Covid supply chain logjams, and there’s always a chance of this or that crucial piece of equipment or parts for transport vehicles being bottlenecked before it can make it to the transport drivers.

Make, model and size of vehicle: curb weight is a big part of shipping costs, so a 5500 lb Ford Expedition is naturally going to be a lot more expensive to ship than a 2400 lb Fiat 500.

Cost/mile: all the above factors come together to affect cost per mile, which is the key piece of any logistics company’s cost calculations. The good news is that for very long runs, cost/mile starts to drop, making it a great value. Still, the fluidity of everything mentioned above will always come into play when figuring cost per mile calculations.

How long does it take to Ship a Car from Houston to Los Angeles?

There’s a little over 1500 miles to cover from Houston to Los Angeles, via the Interstates. As a Los Angeles car shipping company, our rule of thumb at SGT Auto Transport is that a 2000 mile run should take 8 to 9 days to complete, so auto shipment from Houston to Los Angeles should be roughly a 5 to 6 day turnaround. That’s barring anything unexpected like weather, road conditions, construction, detours and traffic, all of which can disrupt the best-planned shipping schedules and result in a delayed ETA.

How much does car transport Los Angeles to Houston cost?

When calculating the cost of auto transport, car shipping companies in Los Angeles to Houston consider several things. The key factor is how far you want to ship your vehicle, closely followed by the type of vehicle you want to ship. The following factors also make a difference in the cost of car shipping services.

Preparing for Vehicle Pickup

We pick up your vehicle at your desired location, on your desired time and date. Please note: an 80 ft auto transport truck might have difficulty (or even might be prohibited) on certain residential streets. If your street is very narrow and congested, or has overhead power lines or overhanging tree branches, it might be wise to get together with the pickup driver at a more easily accessible spot such as a parking lot. You and your transport driver will both inspect the vehicle for its pre-trip condition (which will all be documented on the driver’s Bill of Lading). It’s a good idea to wash your vehicle first, as it’s easier to spot any defects, scrapes or dings on a clean car.

What to Expect When Your Car Arrives

The driver arrives at your destination, and will give you a heads-up call when he’s a few hours away from arrival. You’ll be asked to do a post-trip inspection (as will the driver) and compare the car’s condition to what’s on the driver’s Bill of Lading report. We’d prefer if you could be available to do this and receive the vehicle personally, but you can delegate this task to a friend, relative, associate or neighbor, providing that person is at least 18 years old. Again, please be mindful of the street where the vehicle dropoff will take place, and set it for a different location if it could be a problem. If you arranged for discounted shipping, you may be asked to settle the outstanding balance by paying the driver directly with cash, cashier’s check or money order.

Top 8 hints for transporting/moving to this state

Please inspect your car for fluid leaks: motor oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake or power steering fluid. A transport driver has the option to not load a vehicle with transmission leaks.

Please disable any alarm system; toll tags or transponders should be removed as well.

Don’t forget your transport driver will need a copy of the ignition key.

Please ship your vehicle with a quarter tank of fuel or less; less fuel means less curb weight and lower shipping costs for you.

Please remove any detachable accessories like light bars, bike racks, antennas or rooftop cargo boxes.

Depending on the service you specified, it’s acceptable to ship up to 100 lbs of personal items in a box or suitcase, secured in the trunk or cargo area.

If your vehicle isn’t roadworthy, please let us know in advance. We can and do ship non-running vehicles (such as a project car on its way to a specialized shop for work), but it requires extra time, equipment and handling on the part of the driver.

Don’t forget to wash your car to make it easier to do the pre-trip condition report (the driver will do the same for the Bill of Lading document).
