How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car from Arkansas to Hawaii?

Anytime you’re considering a purchase or a big expenditure of money, that’s going to be one of your first questions. It’s part of anyone’s due diligence, along with some research and comparison shopping.

Unfortunately, it’s a question that has too many variables to be able to give a pat, cut and dried answer for it. There are too many other determining factors that have to be worked into a price quote (which we’re about to get into below), and then there are a number of outside influences that make a mark on shipping costs as well.

There’s one thing you can depend on, though, and that is that SGT Auto Transport is a dependable Arkansas car shipping company and we’ll always work to optimize our methods and technology, and do everything we can to serve you better while offering the best rates possible. You can also count on total transparency with our pricing, meaning no bait & switch, no hidden fees, no surprise charges on the back end.

What Factors Affect the Cost to Ship a Car From Arkansas to Hawaii?

Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the various things that come into play when setting shipping rates – some are baked in and others are beyond our control:

Vehicle year/make/model: this is like a starting point in any rate calculation. Due to differences in size and weight, it would obviously cost more to ship a pallet of roofing shingles than it would a washing machine. The weight and dimensions of a vehicle are big considerations for the same reason, and the size and curb weight of a 5500 lb Ford Expedition would make it more expensive to ship than a 2800 lb Toyota Corolla.

Routing: the civil engineering teams that laid out and designed the Interstate highway system in the 50s had the intention of efficiently connecting major cities, with streamlined superhighways, limited access by on or offramps, and mostly bypassing small towns. Our drivers and dispatch department know the Interstate system very well and use it for the most efficient routing, but if a driver has to leave the Interstate and go a couple of hours on state or county roads to get to a remote or rural location, that’s going to run up the bill on shipping costs.

Fuel costs: there’s no getting away from fluctuations in fuel prices, whether it’s for us drivers at the gas pump or commercial fleets. Obviously if diesel prices are on the upswing, it raises operating costs for commercial drivers and that means a spike in shipping costs.

Inflation: along the same lines, prices for all kinds of goods and services have been climbing upward ever since the Covid lockdowns, and the uncertainty in the global trade environment has only made things worse. If it costs more to maintain and operate a commercial truck (pertaining to things like tires, motor oil, truck parts, etc), then those costs have to be absorbed by consumers.

Seasonal variations: the auto logistics business is cyclical by its nature. That means that during certain calendar periods, there will be more demand for vehicle shipments, and that puts pressure on the number of drivers available to handle those extra shipments. When supply/demand tightens the supply end, that will spike shipping rates for those calendar periods.

Supply chain problems: along the same lines as the bullet point about inflation, chokepoints in supply chains still occur post-Covid, and that can be enough to have an influence on shipping rates as well.

Labor shortages: for decades, the commercial transport driver has had a shortage of professional drivers. At SGT Auto Transport, we’ll only work with the best drivers, handpicked for the right documentation and qualifications. That means offering premium pay to retain them, and those higher labor costs have to be taken up by shipping rates.

When shipping a vehicle to Hawaii, you need to provide the current title and registration, a notarized letter of authorization from any non-present part and a valid ID in order to pick up your car from the port in Hawaii. There are, however, several things you can do to prepare your vehicle for its journey. The list includes:

  • Removing personal items: All personal items must be removed from the vehicle before shipping it to Hawaii. You are, however, allowed to have a spare tire, a jack, jumper cables, floor mats, and infant car seats in the car when it’s shipped.
  • Fuel: The gas tank has to be run down to a maximum of one quarter full.
  • Clean the interior and exterior: If you do this you’re able to closely examine the condition of your car, documenting any dents, scratches, or dings for future reference.
  • Vehicle checks: A vehicle being shipped to Hawaii has to be in an operable condition. There must be no leaking fluids, the emergency brake must be operational, the windows must be intact, and the wheels move.

Prepare your vehicle

It’s easy to ship a vehicle from Hawaii, but if you want the experience to run smoothly, there’s certain documentation you need to provide. The list includes:

  • Ownership documentation: A copy of the title or ownership document of the vehicle must be presented. If the vehicle is still under a Lien, you may need a letter of permission from the bank or dealership, confirming you’re allowed to ship it.
  • Registration and insurance: Valid registration and insurance documentation must be provided.
  • Identification: You must provide a valid picture ID or identification card, along with your booking reservation number. If you’re unable to be present, proof of a power of attorney from the owner allowing it to be shipped has to be shown.
  • You must also prepare your vehicle for shipping: This includes removing all personal items, running the gas tank down to at least one quarter full, cleaning the interior and exterior, checking your vehicle is in an operable condition, and disconnecting all alarms.

Preparing for Vehicle Pickup

Name your time, date and location and the transport driver will show up curbside to pick up your vehicle, load it and get it on its way. Remember that the driver will likely be in an 80 ft commercial tractor-trailer; if you live in a suburban or urban neighborhood with narrow, congested streets or low hanging tree branches, this could be difficult or even illegal for the driver to manage. If that’s the case, consider meeting the driver at an easier spot such as an open parking lot.

What to Expect When Your Car Arrives

At the location, time and date you specify, the driver will show up at the destination point to drop off your vehicle and you can take possession of it again. If you booked your transport job for a discounted shipping rate and there’s still a balance due, you may be asked to pay that outstanding amount directly to the driver. Cash, cashier’s check or money order are accepted.

Useful Tips for Car Shipping from and to Arkansas to Hawaii

Let us help make your move a pleasurable experience

Top 6 hints for transporting/moving to this state

Please remove any external parts like light bars, bike racks, rooftop cargo carriers, antennas

Please remove any toll transponders or tags, and disable any alarms

Please be sure all four tires are completely inflated, your car’s battery is charged up, and the car’s headlights and taillights work

Remember that the driver will need a copy of your car’s ignition key

We prefer to  ship vehicles with a quarter tank of fuel or less. Fuel weighs about 6 lb per gallon, and less fuel means less curb weight and lower shipping costs.

Please check carefully for any motor oil, coolant, transmission, brake or power steering fluid leaks – a transport driver might refuse to load a vehicle with fluid leaks.

If your car’s not in running order, please let us know ahead of time. We can and do ship vehicles that can’t start, run, steer and stop on their own power, but it requires special arrangements, extra equipment and extra time on the part of the transport driver.
