Car Shipping from Montana to Texas

Texas is a big, big place and so is Montana, and there is a lot of ground that needs to be covered to be able to transport a vehicle from Montana to anywhere in Texas. It’s such a big job that it would be tough to make that drive in the family minivan, let alone a commercial 18 wheel auto transport truck. You shouldn’t trust just anyone to take on a job like that, and we’re glad that you thought of us here at SGT Auto Transport.

At SGT, we’re not just a Montana car shipping company; we’ve got a nationwide presence with 26,000 carefully handpicked professional transport drivers dispersed around the country to efficiently handle customer needs. We’ve spent the last decade putting together the right team of people, the right resources, the right technology and equipment and above all, the right mindset to address what our customers need. Along the way, we’ve transported over 100,000 vehicles for over 70,000 customers and amassed a customer satisfaction rating of 4.7 on a 5-star scale. That’s the result of a lot of hard work, diligence and dedication, and we’re just the people you need to get your car from a Point A in Montana to a Point B in Texas. Let’s go in for a closer look at what SGT Auto Transport can do for you, and how it all works:

Our customers' feedback and experience with us transporting vehicles from and to Montana:

Christian E.
from New York State to Montana
Friendly staff, good communication throughout the process (digital communication included), and - most important - a trustable, reliable and quick car transport.
This was the first time for us to use a car transport in the states. SGT organised the transport of our Wrangler from New York State to Montana. Car was picked up two days after contracted first pickup date, which was in line with agreed service level. Transport took just 4 days including weekend, much quicker than expected.
Special requirement was to drop the car without our physical presence at a hotel location, which worked pretty well. Only thing to improve would be a single payment counterparty. We payed the final amount via Venmo directly to the driving company, which caused some trouble because the counterparty account didn't work. (however, finally found a solution).
Bottom line: Will definitely use SGT again.
David Ambrose
from Massachusetts to Bozeman, Montana
Hi to all, I contacted SGTAuto Transport on March 13th and George and Vinny help me set up everything in less than 2 hours. Once completed they had a trucking company set up to pick my two cars up on March 16th from Massachusetts to Bozeman, Montana with an expected delivery at the latest March 25th. Both vehicles arrived on the 22nd sooner than promised. They both were a little dirty but had no damage at all. Thank you again for your help “Kudos” to your team for your help and the cost was less than most other transporters. Thank you

from Montana to Texas
I recently used SGT Transport when I purchased a used vehicle. I selected them because their quote was middle-of-the-road compared to others, and they seemed to offer the best service, particularly in terms of responsiveness.
The setup for the transport was straightforward. The company's communication was clear both as they were arranging the transport and when coordinating with the actual transport company. The pick-up driver was from Ukraine and spoke limited English, but he managed well enough with a dually truck hauling a trailer with three vehicles.

Once my vehicle arrived, I was satisfied with its condition. The entire process was quick, considering the distance from Montana to Texas. The transport was completed in about two days, which I found impressive.

Regarding the cost, while the quote wasn't the absolute lowest, it was close. Importantly, the final price was almost exactly what was originally quoted, unlike my experiences with other companies. Overall, I would rate my experience as outstanding and would readily recommend SGT Transport to others.

from Montana
The car was picked up in Montana on schedule. The delivery was earlier than scheduled. But the driver was kind enough to drive the vehicle in my driveway and leave the key on my porch. It was supposed to be COD, but I wasn't there. So they left it right on me to pay, which was kind of risky on their end. But maybe they figured that I was good for it and indeed I am. Overall, it was a very favorable experience. It was quite seamless.
Cheryl
from Michigan to Montana
I blew the engine in my car in Montana and I live in Michigan. I had to fly back home because it was gonna take four weeks to get the car fixed. I didn't wanna drive back out there and get it. I emailed SGT Auto and got a quote then somebody called me from there. I asked him six million questions and he answered them all to my satisfaction. He was very patient and informative so I was extremely happy. The quote I was given was right in the ballpark of the other quotes that I had gotten.
When my car was done, I called SGT back and gave them an all-clear that they could transport the car and they did. They called me and told me when they were gonna pick up the car and they called me and told me that it had been picked up. They then called me the morning of and gave me an approximate time that evening that the car would be there. They gave a time and it was 15 minutes different than the time that they gave me for delivery. That was pretty good coming across country. They brought the car pretty much to my location. I live in a gated campground in the summer and they brought it right outside the gate, across the street. I just drove my golf cart over there to get it. It was very close.

What Factors Affect the Cost to Ship a Car From Montana to Texas?

Here are some of the moving parts (no pun intended) that drive shipping rates and determine a cost structure for auto logistics:

Labor shortages: for decades, the trucking industry has been short on qualified drivers. That puts the whole industry in a bind, and at SGT Auto Transport we only want to engage with the best owner-operators we can find. We screen our drivers carefully and to be able to attract and retain that kind of professionals, we offer premium pay to keep them on board. More outlay of money for labor costs naturally means higher shipping rates.

Vehicle year/make/model: this is another big driver of cost/mile. Dimensions and weight of a shipment means more space taken up on a transport truck and more tonnage to get down the road, and a 5500 lb Ford Expedition will cost more to ship than a 3000 lb Toyota Camry.

Inflation: nobody likes seeing higher prices, but since the Covid lockdowns prices for all kinds of things worldwide have been on the rise and the uncertainty in the global trade environment isn’t helping things. If a trucking company or owner-operator has to pay more for truck tires, motor oil, parts and anything else needed to keep a truck operational and safe, those costs have to be passed along and recouped.

Fuel prices: like the bullet point mentioned above, higher pump prices for diesel means that it costs more to get a truck down the road with a load of vehicles. That means cost/mile goes up, and an adjustment in shipping rates has to happen. The good news is that this is a factor that can fluctuate up or down month by month or even week by week.

Seasonal patterns in shipping traffic: every car shipping company in Montana or Texas knows that this is a business that follows cycles. During certain calendar periods, the number of people that need auto logistics services is going to tick up, which means fewer drivers are available. That supply/demand curve then dictates a temporary spike in shipping costs.

Cost/mile: all the above factors (and more) come together to set cost/mile, which is always one of the basic elements of any rate formula. The good news is that for a very long distance shipment (like Montana to Texas), cost/mile starts to drop and the longer the shipment, the lower it goes, making cross country auto transport a solid value.

How long does it take to Ship a Car from Texas to Montana?

Considering how big Montana and Texas both are (Texas is bigger than France, Poland or Germany in terms of land mass!), let’s narrow this down by discussing transport from Bozeman to Austin, dead in the middle of the state.

Routing shows there to be about 1600 miles of highway to cover between these two points. Our formula for shipping schedules says that a 200 mile shipment should be doable in a single day. If a driver has to cover 2000 miles, that is considered to be an 8 to 9 day turnaround, so we could figure that 1600 miles should take 6 to 7 days to complete (roughly).

Please remember, though, that there are a lot of things that can interfere with a shipping schedule. Just like if you were on a vacation road trip, bad weather, road conditions, detours, construction and heavy traffic can disrupt the best plans and push up an ETA. If that does happen the customer support team at SGT will reach out to inform you of what’s going on, and keep you updated on when you can expect to see the driver and your vehicle at the destination point.

If you’re on a crowded street with lots of cars and low-hanging branches or power lines, it could be difficult (or even against city ordinance) to get an 80 ft transport truck to your address. If so, consider an easier spot to get together for pickup, such as an open parking lot.

What to Expect When Your Car Arrives

You’ll be given an ETA on when to expect the driver at your destination, and the driver will show up curbside to unload the car so you can take possession of it again. You’ll be asked to do a post-trip inspection (as well as pre-trip), and so will the driver to match the car’s condition against the Bill of Lading documentation. Also, if you arranged for discount shipping and there’s a balance outstanding, you’ll be asked to settle up what’s owed. You can pay this amount directly to the driver via cash, cashier’s check or money order.

Top 7 hints for transporting/moving to this state

Please remove any external parts like light bars, bike racks, rooftop cargo carriers, antennas

Please remove any toll transponders or tags, and disable any alarms

Please be sure all four tires are completely inflated, your car’s battery is charged up, and the car’s headlights and taillights work

Remember that the driver will need a copy of your car’s ignition key

We prefer to  ship vehicles with a quarter tank of fuel or less. Fuel weighs about 6 lb per gallon, and less fuel means less curb weight and lower shipping costs.

Please check carefully for any motor oil, coolant, transmission, brake or power steering fluid leaks – a transport driver might refuse to load a vehicle with fluid leaks.

If your car’s not in running order, please let us know ahead of time. We can and do ship vehicles that can’t start, run, steer and stop on their own power, but it requires special arrangements, extra equipment and extra time on the part of the transport driver.
