What to Expect from New Jersey Vehicle Shipping with SGT Auto Transport

Interstate 95 is one of the major north/south arteries on the Eastern Seaboard of the US, and auto transport from New Jersey to Georgia would most likely involve a lot of driving on 95 (or alternately, I-77 and I-81). While the drive would be pretty direct and streamlined, it would also be very long – the kind of drive that you’d want to split up into two days, with an overnight stay.

Leanne Dayvolt

My company purchased 2 new trucks in Arkansas and had SGT Auto Transport deliver both to Atlanta, Georgia. The transaction was seamless and surprisingly inexpensive. The driver was careful with the vehicles and respectful. Outstanding experience and I would recommend SGT Auto Transport to anyone needing a like service. Kudos to this company!
Sabu Thomas
from Indiana to Atlanta Georgia
I have used many auto shipping companies that unfortunately says one thing and delivers another (no pun intended). However SGT kept their promised pickup and delivery the same day, that too from Fort Wayne Indiana to Atlanta Georgia. That’s over 650 miles! Very prompt, courteous and reasonably priced. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. They will be my first preference for my future shipping needs. They are highly rated on google for all the right reasons.
Randy Doty
from Arizona to Georgia
Moved a car from Arizona to Georgia and it was a great experience. Car picked up when scheduled and arrived a day earlier than expected. Fair price and excellent customer service
Billy Cole
from NY to Georgia
The service was great, my car was picked up off a small block by a flat bed arrived by trailer delivered door to door. Ny to georgia three days. I was inquisitive after two days but I stayed trusting.

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car from New Jersey to Georgia?

This is a question anyone should ask  when they’re thinking about spending several hundred dollars  for a product or service. When it comes to auto transport, though, it’s not an easy question to address. Shipping rates turn on too many variables that have to be figured  into the equation, and in the next section we’re going to drill down into some of those in greater detail.

What Factors Affect the Cost to Ship a Car From New Jersey to Georgia?

Lots of variables have to be figured into the rate calculations for any New Jersey car shipping company, and here’s a brief rundown on some of the factors that come into pricing formulations for auto transport.

Vehicle year/make/model: this is always one of the biggest bottom-line factors for shipping costs. Consider for a moment a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and a Mini Cooper. The Mini has a curb weight of around 2500 lbs, while the Chevy weighs 5500 lbs and is 16 ft long. That Chevy truck is going to be more expensive to ship; its curb weight means that the truck hauling it will use more fuel every mile, and its size means valuable space on a transport trailer that could be taken by other cars.

Fuel prices: everyone feels it when fuel prices go up, and when it costs more money to   top off the diesel tanks on a transport truck, that’s an overhead cost that a trucker or trucking company can’t afford to absorb. Higher fuel prices are necessarily passed on in  higher shipping rates, but the good news is that when fuel prices come down, so do the rates.

Regulatory issues: operating costs for commercial trucks are high to start with, and things get more expensive when you remember that trucking is one of the most highly regulated industries in America. Truckers have to handle  a maze of regulations,  with standards for vehicle safety, driver safety, emissions, interstate commerce, insurance, permits and certifications. Truckers then have to stay in compliance in every state they travel through, which raises operating costs.

Inflation: higher prices and supply chain issues have been a persistent issue worldwide since the Covid lockdowns, and we’re all in the middle of an uncertain international trade climate as well. When  motor oil, truck tires, auto parts and everything else needed to keep a truck maintained and running well are all more expensive, that’s going to affect rates for customers.

Cost/mile: the cost/mile equation is what all logistics cost analyses are built on, and all of the above (and more) are part of cost/mile calculation. The good news is that cost/mile starts to drop for longer distances, at which point cross country auto transit starts looking pretty good

How long does it take to Ship a Car from New Jersey to Georgia?

This question by itself is a little vague, so let’s be more specific by talking about vehicle transport from Newark to Macon. Looking at an online mileage guide, that run would be 867 miles by highway, and our guidelines note if a driver has to cover  200 miles for a delivery, it  should be done in a single day. If a driver has to transport a vehicle for 2000 miles, that’s usually going to be an 8 to 9 day turnaround. With that in mind, we’d estimate that vehicle shipment from New Jersey to Georgia should take 3 to 4 days to complete.

When it comes to shipping times and ETAs, though, please bear in mind that these are always going to be estimates. Once a truck gets underway and starts on a delivery run, there are any number of things that can disrupt the timetable and slow down the driver. Bad weather, road conditions, detours, construction and traffic are just a few of the things that can slow down a driver; if that happens, our support team will contact you and advise you of the driver’s progress and your new ETA

Preparing for Vehicle Pickup

At your preferred time and date for vehicle pickup, we’ll dispatch a driver to arrive curbside at your address at that time. Please note that a congested street with lots of cars or low-hanging branches can be difficult or even illegal for an 80 ft commercial truck. If that describes where you are, it could be better to meet your driver at an  easier spot, such as an open parking lot.

3

What to Expect When Your Car Arrives

We’ll give you an estimate  of time and date for delivery, and your transport driver will arrive at your destination at that time. In advance of both pickup and delivery you can expect a heads-up phone call from the driver, letting you know that he’s on the way. Also please note that you and the driver will both perform a quick inspection of your car’s condition at the time of pickup and delivery, and you can sign the driver’s Bill of Lading on delivery.

Useful Tips for Car Shipping from and to New Jersey to Georgia

Here’s a brief roundup of some of the vehicle logistics services that SGT Auto Transport offers, giving us the flexibility to personalize every delivery for different customers:

Top 8 hints for transporting/moving to this state

Don’t forget to get your driver’s phone number, for regular check-ins en route

Remember the driver will need your car’s ignition key

You can ship up to 100 lbs of personal items with the car, secured in the trunk or cargo area

Remember to ship your car with less than ¼ tank of fuel - for lower curb weight and savings on shipping rates.

Please check your car for fluid leaks, including coolant, transmission, brake, oil or power steering fluid - a driver can refuse to load a vehicle with leaks

Please be sure all four tires are fully inflated, all headlights and taillights work, and the battery is fully charged .

If you’re transporting a project car or vintage car with any mechanical quirks such as a difficult startup, consider leaving your transport driver a “cheat sheet” to inform him.

It’s advisable to wash your car well before pickup - since you and the driver will do a pre-trip inspection, it’s easier to spot any minor scrapes, dings or defects on a clean car.
