SGT customer service gave us several options to transport our car down to Florida. We chose the best option that would work for us. Before and after we met the transport, our driver, Rafael kept in constant communication with us updating the timing. Even with weather and other delays, our car arrived before us, which was perfect!
Niki DiStefano
from New York
Thank God I found SGT, I had booked with another carrier without reading their reviews, so unlike me, who cancelled my reservation three times! At the last minute I found SGT, did a next day booking, extra charge of course, but everything with them worked out great. The driver, Artie, was wonderful, and took very good care of my car. I’m very happy with their service.

Our customers' feedback and experience with us transporting vehicles from and to Delaware:

Rachel Gordon
from Riverview Fl to Delaware
I had to have a Toyota RAV 4 transported from Riverview Fl to Delaware. I am very grateful that I chose SGT. The driver was friendly, efficient and on time. He handled my vehicle with care. The vehicle arrived 24 hours later, exactly as stated. The delivery driver was just as friendly and efficient as the pickup driver. More important is that there was zero damage to my vehicle or any properties included. I highly recommend them to anyone considering cross country open transportation for their vehicle.
Patrick
from Delaware to Columbus, Ohio
I had two vehicles shipped with SGT Auto Transport. The Porsche was coming back from my mechanic in Delaware for the first one. The second one, I had purchased a car in Massachusetts and needed to get it home. Both of those were getting shipped to Columbus, Ohio. The delivery was good. They would usually call the day before and they would give you details, and then I would say, "I'll meet you on the street," just because my street can be hard to reach.
The only complaint I have was at the end, you have to give them a code so they can get compensated. It always seemed like a ** show where I would give the code to the driver, and then there would still be confusion on the back end where they would not get the payment. It was not the smoothest process. But the shippers were good. They took good care of the car, which is very important to me. One of them made sure to get on a very correctly sloped street so we didn't scratch the bumper. Zero complaints there.

What Factors Affect the Cost to Ship a Car From New York to Delaware?

Here’s a breakdown of some of the things that have to be considered when setting a pricing structure for auto logistics:

Labor shortages: it’s been well acknowledged in the logistics industry that there’s a shortage of qualified drivers nationwide. That’s an even more acute problem when you consider that at SGT Auto Transport, we are pretty selective about the drivers we’ll work with. It’s about more than just experience, too.  Everyone in our network of 26,000 drivers is carefully vetted to be the best we can find - that includes the right licensing, regulatory compliance, certifications, DOT permits, insurance and vehicle safety. To retain the best drivers, we offer premium pay, and higher labor costs affect shipping rates.

Regulatory standards: the commercial trucking industry is a patchwork of regulations, and drivers and companies have to stay current and in compliance with all of them. That can entail vehicle standards, emissions laws, driver safety and many other moving parts that change from one state to the next and one year to the next. Making sure that drivers are current on all these is a priority, and has an effect on shipping costs.

Inflation: ever since the Covid lockdown (and changes and uncertainty in the global trade environment), prices have been on the rise for all kinds of things. When things like tires, motor oil, truck parts and maintenance-related items are more expensive, someone has to take up that cost.

Calendar period: it’s well recognized in the logistics business that demand for shipments will spike several times a year. The holidays, summer holidays, back-to-school time and other periods mean more people are shipping vehicles, which means drivers will be busier and that supply/demand situation has an effect on shipping costs too.

Fuel prices: this one’s a no-brainer. When fuel costs go up, even companies like UPS or FedEx have to pass those costs along to consumers. We’re all subject to pain from fuel prices in one way or another.

Supply chain bottlenecks: in the post-Covid world, suppliers and distributors still experience choke points in their supply lines. Truck parts and logistics-related supplies are no exception, and this is something that’s often beyond anyone’s control.

Vehicle year/make/model: this is one of the biggest factors in pricing. For any logistics company, the weight of the shipment is a big consideration. The dimensions and curb weight of a 4800 lb Ford Explorer will necessarily make it more expensive to ship than a 2800 lb Kia Soul.

Routing: the Interstate highway system was designed for efficient travel and connection between major cities. Our drivers and routing specialists take advantage of that efficiency, but when a driver has to take a lengthy trip off the Interstate to a rural area or very remote town, that means shipping costs will go up.

Cost/mile: cost per mile is the biggest part of the equation for any logistics company, and all the bullet points we just listed are what determines cost per mile. The good news is that for very long runs with SGT Auto Transport, cost per mile starts to drop, making cross country auto shipping a solid value.

How long does it take to Ship a Car from New York to Delaware?

Let’s get a little more specific with this and talk about a shipment from New York City to Dover, Delaware. That looks like a distance of just a little under 200 miles, and it’s our policy at SGT Auto Transport that a 200 mile delivery should be accomplished in a single day. A longer distance (let’s say Rochester to Dover) of about 400 miles should be doable in 2 to 3 days. It’s important to remember, though, that all kinds of unforeseen events and circumstances can throw off a delivery schedule. Weather, road conditions, detours, construction and other delays can push up an ETA, but if anything should happen to disrupt your delivery schedule you’ll be notified by customer support at SGT Auto Transport and advised on when to expect your delivery.

How Does Vehicle Transport from New York to Delaware Work?

There’s really not a lot to this process - we’ve been able to narrow it down and optimize it to just three steps:

1

How to Get a Shipping Quote and Book Your Order

Find the quote calculator, enter the details it needs and get your quote. If you feel like you need a little deeper insight into the particulars of your auto logistics needs, you can contact us via live chat or call (917) 536-6616 for more info. 2

Preparing for Vehicle Pickup

At the time, date and location you specify, a transport driver will arrive to load your car onto a trailer and get it on its way. The transport driver will be filling out a Bill of Lading and doing an inspection of the vehicle’s condition, and you’ll be asked to do the same (hint: photos are a good idea on this step). We suggest that you wash your vehicle first, as it’s a lot easier to spot any existing scratches, dings or defects on a clean car.

3

What to Expect When Your Car Arrives

At your designated time, date and location, the driver will arrive at your destination to drop the car off. You’ll be asked to do a post-trip inspection and the driver will do the same, and you can both compare the car’s condition to the Bill of Lading report. As noted above, there’s always a possibility of things that are out of our control delaying your shipment; if there’s a chance of that happening, SGT’s customer support will let you know and will advise you of the new expected ETA.

Let us help make your move a pleasurable experience

Top 6 hints for transporting/moving to this state

Please remove any external parts like light bars, bike racks, rooftop cargo carriers, antennas

Please remove any toll transponders or tags, and disable any alarms

Please be sure all four tires are completely inflated, your car’s battery is charged up, and the car’s headlights and taillights work

Remember that the driver will need a copy of your car’s ignition key

We prefer to  ship vehicles with a quarter tank of fuel or less. Fuel weighs about 6 lb per gallon, and less fuel means less curb weight and lower shipping costs.

Please check carefully for any motor oil, coolant, transmission, brake or power steering fluid leaks – a transport driver might refuse to load a vehicle with fluid leaks.
