How long does it take to transport a car to and from Vancouver, WA?

The delivery time for a car traveling to or from Vancouver is longer than for other shipments due to several reasons. Firstly, Washington is the most distant and remote state of all located in the mainland U.S. There are several major roadways to reach; however, due to the Rockies, navigating them can take longer than other routes. The general rule for shipping to or from Washington is that it takes at least 15% longer than equivalent routes in distance. To get a final shipment timeframe, we recommend contacting us directly.

The best ways and methods to ship a car to or from Vancouver, WA

There are many ways to ship a car, and SGT Auto Transport is the place to find them. Amongst the specialized services, our customers can always find a reliable choice for an everyday shipment. This is what we have in store for you:

Open car shipping: Open car shipping is by far the most reliable way to transport a car over any distance. It is reliable in terms of being the most widely available choice since most carriers use open trailers for transportation purposes. It is both affordable and safe, and is the fantastic choice for customers who are on a budget or want to ship a whole car collection at a fair price. SGT gives customers extra options that further enhance the experience, with included paid insurance coverage for your car’s transit and overall great reliability and delivery speed rating.

Enclosed car shipping: The enclosed car shipping service is a specialized car transportation used for high-end vehicles that need extra protection. There are many types of enclosed trailers, with the most common one being a box trailer, which can fit up to 3 vehicles. There are also two-decker enclosed trailers, trailers with hydraulic lifts, and climate-controlled trailers, which are used for shipping carbon fiber cars and parts.

Cross-country car shipping: When shipping over a long distance, the most reliable way to do it is with a cross-country shipping option. This service reduces the cost of transportation, making it far more affordable, while also keeping the rating for safety and reliability quite high. Most customers who ship cross-country or long distances choose this method of transportation because it gives them all of the important perks.

Snowbird car shipping: Snowbirds travel annually, shipping their cars down south during the winter and returning home in early spring. This causes a big flood of customers from March to September, which decreases the availability of carriers. That’s why we’ve created our specialized service that guarantees all snowbirds a secure way of scheduling a shipment even during the high-demand periods of the year.

Express car shipping: Express car shipping is a fantastic way to reduce the long shipping times. This service is specialized and makes your car’s shipping the carrier’s priority. While it's more expensive than regular shipping, this service makes sure your vehicle reaches its final destination on time. If you are in a hurry and need to meet a tight deadline, this is your best choice.

White-glove car shipping: White-glove car shipping refers to our best service - it offers the highest-end trailers, with the best scheduling options, and the fastest deliveries. It is specifically used for the shipping of very expensive cars that require a more careful approach. It is a tailor-made service that takes care of all fine details and ensures that your prized possession reaches its destination on time and in style.

Door-to-door transport: Door-to-door transport services are a staple of the industry because they are convenient and reduce the cost overall. With this option enabled, customers can specify the address they want their car to be delivered to and where it is currently located. As long as the addresses are accessible by an 18-wheeler, we can accommodate your needs. If they are not, we will advise you on a better location close by.

How long does it take to transport a car to and from Vancouver, WA

There are many routes a carrier can take when transporting your car.

Car delivery services will generally take from 1 to 10 days to deliver a car, which applies even for shipments over 3,000 miles. The general rule is that shipments within 500 miles of the initial address take 24 hours to complete. Those between 500 and 100 miles take 2 days, those above 1,500 miles take up to 4-5 days, and those above 2,000 miles take from 6 to 10 days, depending on the exact location of the delivery. Other factors that affect delivery times are the condition of the car, the current weather patterns along the route, and the road conditions. Roadworks and adverse weather can cause a longer delivery time, but customers are always notified beforehand.

Our customers' vehicle relocation services experiences in Vancouver, WA with SGT Auto Transport

Great experience with SGT. My son is stationed in Lemoore California and I was trying to get his car shipped to him, It was my first time shipping a vehicle and they made it very smooth for me. Thank you Zack for the reassurance. The two drivers/pick up guys were so amazing, they called me to let me know what time they would be there. I gave them a heads up on the curves and hills in my neighborhood and if they had a place they would like to pick up. I meet them somewhere that was convenient for them, so they would be able to just take right off.
The entire process of shipping my car from Spokane Washington to Arizona was seamless. Great customer service and a fantastic transport driver.
From NJ to Washington state. Everything as promised. From pricing, service, and promptness. I give these guys an A+. Communication was excellent and delivery on time along with pricing. I was pleasantly surprised since this was my 1st time. Will use again for sure. They beat everyone's prices may I add.
I had an excellent experience with SGT Auto Transport. Shipped my daughter's Subie literally across the entire country (Washington state to Florida) without a single issue. Driver was totally professional. Administration was excellent and they kept me in the loop via text and phone the entire time. Would recommend and would use them again.
Talked with Stan at SGT transport. He made getting transportation for my new car from New York to Washington state so easy. Great rates and super friendly! Would definitely highly recommend!😊
Had a car shipped from Washington State to Telford TN. The experience was great!! No issues at all. No surprises in cost. The quote they gave me was exact! West Coast Transport shipped the vehicle and the driver was extremely professional and the car arrived just like it left the West coast! I would highly recommend SGT!!!

Tips for Vancouver, Washington Car Shipping Services

Vancouver is a sparkling city located on the border between Washington and Oregon, and is situated along the Columbia River delta. It's a wonderful city, but what can a new Vancouver resident expect as a driver? Here’s what we know:

The main road artery that supplies Vancouver is the I-5, which can be quite congested during rush hour as it goes to the local Portland, Vancouver bridges.

Be mindful of cyclists and pedestrians. Vancouver is a very metropolitan city with a lot of cycling options. Unfortunately, cyclists and cars have to share the road, so we recommend you be more careful, especially around dawn and dusk when human eyesight is not yet adapted to the lower light conditions.

Vancouver bridge congestion. Vancouver has several major bridges, specifically those on the I-5 and the I-205. To see what traffic is like, you can check the WSDOT website for reports.

Vancouver sprawl. Vancouver is a developing city, with lots of construction and road maintenance, which causes further congestion problems, so be patient or leave earlier than others.

Vancouver school speed limits. The speed limit for Vancouver school zones is 20 mph, unlike in some states, where it's limited to only 15 mph

The speed limit for residential areas and the city limits is 25 miles per hour.

The speed limit for urban highways is 60 mph, and the rural interstate highway speed limit is 70 mph.

Adverse weather. While one of the northernmost cities, Vancouver experiences more rain than snow, especially during the winter. Keep a safe distance from other drivers and always follow the 6-second rule.

Prepare Your Vehicle for Auto Transportation from Vancouver, WA

It's easy to prepare your car for car shipping; there are only a handful of things you can do in the interim before the carrier arrives to collect your vehicle. Here’s what we recommend:

Secure a spare key. All carriers require a spare key and unimpeded access to any car they are shipping. Find a spare key for your vehicle; it can be a valet key or a key fob that works with the car. Make sure they are official keys and not DIY programmed ones, as they can cause a problem during transportation.

Remove any toll transponders. A lot of our customers use toll transponders for easy travel. We recommend you remove or disable your toll transponder to avoid paying for tolls that you needn’t pay for.

Make sure your car is accessible. Park your car in a location that can be accessed by an 18-wheeler. This makes the day of the pickup a lot easier for both you and the driver of the carrier.

Wash the car and take photos. Document the current state of the car before it is shipped. Wash it first and take detailed photos of every panel, the windshield, the bumpers, the side mirrors, and the trunk.

Secure all personal items in the trunk. If you want to transport personal items inside your car, it is mandatory for them to be inside a secure container in the trunk. Remove all personal items from the passenger compartment of the car.

Leave no more than ¼ of a tank of fuel in the car. This rule goes for both full gasoline/diesel cars and hybrids. For EVs, the recommended safe SoC is between 30% and 50%, but no more or less.

Be sure the car is operational. When booking, you have to specify the condition of the car. Make sure your car runs and stops and that all signals work, including headlights, stop lights, etc.

How to Save on Car Shipping in Vancouver, WA

Saving on car shipping can be made easy with the right choices and a bit of preparation. We at SGT support all customers, especially those looking to book on a budget. Here’s what we recommend you do:

  • Book early and in advance. By booking early, you are giving us more time to prepare for the shipment and to find you a good carrier who will reduce the price of the service.
  • Book away from weekends, the end of the month, or during holidays. If you have control over when exactly the shipment must happen, we recommend booking during the weekday, at the start or in the middle of the calendar month, and away from holidays. These are the times when the market is the quietest, and chances are you will be getting a better price if you are patient.
  • Use SGT’s deals and offers. We frequently publish generous offers and deals that can save you up to 40% of the price of your shipment. Keep an eye out for our deals and check back with us regularly.
  • Book from November to March. November and March are at the cusp of the busiest periods of the year, which is why carriers and shipping companies are eager to start with more shipments than last year. This is the period during which most carriers lower their rates in preparation for the summer rush.

Seasonal Road & Weather Impact

SeasonImpact
Summer (Jun–Sep)Warm temperatures and high relocation activity in the Pacific Northwest may increase transport demand and affect scheduling availability
Winter (Dec–Feb)Cold temperatures, rain, ice and occasional snow in the Columbia River Gorge region can impact travel times and route conditions
Spring (Mar–May)Increased vehicle shipping demand driven by relocations and generally stable weather supports efficient transport operations

Columbia River Gorge wind eventsStrong winds may affect high-profile vehicle transport and cause occasional delays on I-84 and surrounding corridors
Holiday seasonIncreased shipping demand and higher freight volumes on I-5 and I-205 may lead to longer scheduling lead times
Summer travel peakVacation traffic along I-5 increases congestion and can slightly extend delivery timelines during peak weeks
Port and freight activity periodsHigher industrial and logistics activity near the Port of Vancouver USA may contribute to localized traffic delays
Extreme weather eventsRare snowstorms or ice events can significantly impact highway conditions and temporarily delay transport operations

Receiving Your Vehicle in Vancouver, WA

When receiving your vehicle, we recommend doing a couple of things that will make your experience a bit better:

  • Be present for the delivery. Sometimes it's not possible to be present for the delivery, and that’s ok. You can arrange for someone else to sign off on the delivery; however, if it's possible, we recommend that you personally receive the car. This gives you a chance to not only enjoy the moment, but also to inspect the vehicle before signignt he Bill of Lading.
  • Take note of any damage and specify it in the Bill of Lading. This is a very important step and is the reason we recommend that you be present for the delivery. If there is any damage, even minor scratches, that was not present before the shipment, document it thoroughly with photos and note it in the Bill of Lading. This will make it easier to get them reimbursed by the carrier’s insurance.
  • Receive your documents and spare key. Your car will arrive along with some important documents and the spare key you gave to the driver. Get them back from the driver.
  • Pay the rest of the shipment. If you’ve opted for the credit/debit approach, you have a 50% service fee pending. Settle the bill with the carrier by hand, either via cash, a cashier’s check or a money order.
